Eugene, OR Golf Courses Challenge All Skill Levels
Some are harder; some are easier. And even one that's referred to as "a campus."
A number of distinctive golf sites are available to low-handicappers and duffers alike in the Eugene-Springfield area. In fact‚ one golf course isn’t even called a course. It’s a campus.
RiverRidge Golf Campus
RiverRidge Golf Campus in Eugene features a covered driving range‚ a regulation 18-hole golf course‚ a par-3 nine-hole course and a nine-hole executive course – all in the same complex.
“We offer golfers the option of hitting a bucket of balls‚ playing a quick nine holes or taking the afternoon off to play a challenging 18‚” says Ric Jeffries‚ owner of RiverRidge. “There are probably not five other public golf facilities in the United States that offer what we do.”
The par-3 and executive courses are called The Nines‚ and are located across the street from the 18-hole RiverRidge course.
“The par-3 course is ideal for beginners‚ while the executive course is a par-32 that features some challenges‚” Jeffries says. “The 18-hole layout is a par-71‚ 6‚400-yard test that can be played in four hours. It’s unusual because it features five par 5s and six par 3s. RiverRidge is really a fun campus.”
Emerald Valley Golf Club
Another enjoyable public golf setting in Lane County is Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell. It offers one of the most challenging tests of golf in the Willamette Valley‚ with a 7‚100-yard setting from the back tees during tournament play.
“The (length of) 7‚100 yards provides some difficult challenges‚ but we also have four other tee boxes for most other players‚” says Todd O’Neal‚ general manager and head PGA professional at Emerald Valley. “Those tee boxes include white tees that shorten the course to 6‚200 yards‚ and ladies’ tees that measure 5‚400 yards. The course is perfect for any skill level.”
Emerald Valley is considered an old-style course because it features hundreds of large trees that have been woven into the course’s architecture.
“We didn’t need to plant trees because they were already there‚” O’Neal says. “Besides beautiful scenery‚ our fairways are narrow on most holes‚ and we feature some of the best putting greens around.”
And private course Eugene Country Club is ranked a Top 100 layout by Golf Digest magazine.
“There are plenty of great golf options in and around Eugene‚” Jeffries says. “Just grab your clubs‚ come on out and hit ’em long and straight.
