Located at 125 Market House Square, Cynthia’s is noted for its distinctive cuisine served in a spectacular setting of antique tables and chairs, artwork, stained glass and a tile bar – all work of local artisans. The menu changes on a weekly basis. Starnes BBQ, at 108 Broadway, satisfies those with a hankering for hickory-pit barbecue prepared by the Starnes family experts. Etcetera Coffeehouse in LowerTown offers organic and fair trade coffee, tea and snacks, as well as a venue for musicians and student artists. Kirchhoff’s Bakery & Deli is a part of Paducah’s past – and future. Located at 114-118 South Second St., the business was established in 1873 by Franz and Hannah Kirchhoff, who emigrated from Germany. In 1952, a fire destroyed the grocery and bakery. After four decades, family members bought the property back and reopened Kirchhoff’s. Today, its tasty sandwiches, artisan breads, salads and homemade soups tempt a new generation. Kirchhoff’s uses some local ingredients, and you can too, with a visit to the Paducah Downtown Farmers’ Market on any day of the week except Sunday during growing season (mid-May through November). Farmers sell their fresh bounty near the river at the corner of Second and Washington streets.
