Patrick Henry Community College gets crafty with its School of Design. With seven career studies to choose from, students at the college stay on top of the city's art scene. The School of Craft and Design comprises one of the four off-campus sites that the college offers.
Among the seven career studies are Stained Glass, Fine Woodworking, Pottery, Decorative Painting, Weaving, Quilting and Metalworking. The college's recent affiliation with CraftNet, an international network of 14 colleges, has allowed the school to strengthen its training program and creative based enterprise. CraftNet works to strengthen marketing capacities of artwork, thereby ensuring that artists in programs such as the one offered at Patrick Henry are able to make a profitable living utilizing their degree.
The college is also closely tied with The Southern Virginia Artisan Center, which serves as a way for students to showcase and sell their works. The gallery also contains work by instructors and local established artists. On display visitors will find folk art, photography, paintings, furniture pieces, jewelry and much more.
