Majestic redwood forests, pristine parks, beautiful beaches, ample sunshine and moderate temperatures make Santa Cruz, CA the top vacation destination for spring break travelers who like to stay active. Yes, we had to include one beach town, but it has so much more.

Adventurers can watch whales, hike through forests and kayak, or keep their adrenaline pumping on roller coasters and other thrill rides at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which also has kiddie rides. A laid-back surfer attitude permeates many shops and restaurants in Santa Cruz, which is not a bad thing, especially when it comes to visitors with kids. A collection of cafés serve healthy breakfasts and lunches full of fresh and organic ingredients. Many dinner spots offer beach-side seating, where the sun goes down smoothly with a microbrew or glass of wine.
