Since 1999, the Sumter WineFest has given area residents the opportunity to enjoy good wine for a good cause. The yearly event raises thousands of dollars for programs associated with Sumter Senior Services, which provides services and activities for many of Sumter County’s older residents.

Organizers came up with the idea of a festival as a way for both experienced and beginning wine lovers to enjoy a host of varietals, and also help the community. From its first year, the Sumter WineFest has grown in popularity and become the toast of the town. A number of local businesses sponsor the event by providing food, wine and other services.

The Sumter WineFest traditionally kicks off with the annual Sip N’ Stroll evening. Downtown businesses will be open after hours, offering wines paired with breads, cheeses and other hors d'oeuvres.

The main event is held at the Sumter County Gallery of Art and Patriot Hall Center. Fest-goers can enjoy familiar and new domestic and imported wines of all varieties, ranging from cabernet to merlot to pinot noir, and dessert wines. The wine is accompanied by appetizers and other treats prepared by some of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers. Live classical and jazz music fill the venue, adding to the ambience. A silent auction offers guests a chance to bid on local goods and services.
