The Spencer-Penn Centre has become an icon in the city of Spencer. Built in 1910, the Centre has played a revolving role in the history of the city, starting with schoolhouse.

Originally operating as a school for grades 1-7 and containing only three rooms, the Centre was upgraded in 1926 to its current state, which included a new brick building with five classrooms and an auditorium. The original wooden structure became the first public high school in the community.

Spencer-Penn continued to function as an elementary school until 2004, when it closed as a result of a consolidation. It didn't take long before the community rallied and started the Spencer-Penn School Preservation Organization, which focused on turning the property into a site for education and special events.

Now the Centre features a newly remodeled auditorium, which seats 170 for parties, receptions and dinner theatres, or 250 for concert seating. Renovations continue at the Spencer-Penn Centre thanks to charitable friends and former students.

Events at the Centre include Music Night every second Friday, photography and art exhibitions, and art and aerobic classes. The Centre also hosts the Spencer Community Fair, held every year on the third Saturday of September.
