The Brentwood Library is known as the 'crown jewel' of the city, and the popular facility is treated as such by Brentwood residents.

Every Brentwood resident or property owner has free borrowing privileges at the library, which offers more than 153,000 books and other materials, including audiobooks, DVDs, music CDs and reference databases. A large collection of newspapers and magazines is also available.

The library also provides study rooms for small group sessions, a mid-size conference room, wireless Internet service, and a large meeting facility for rent to clubs, businesses and community events hosted by Brentwood residents.

The library welcomes an average of 1,000 visitors each day, making it one of the most used libraries in the state.

A yearlong, $5 million construction project that ended in 2009 added an additional 14,000 square feet to the building and renovated another 15,000 square feet of existing space, providing additional computer rooms for group meetings and an expanded children's area.

The Brentwood Library Foundation supports the facility generously, raising money for such past projects as a spacious outdoor terrace, an outdoor amphitheater and more.
