Creativity knows no bounds in Dickson County, where local artisans create masterpieces that carry local craftsmanship and originality far beyond the confines of this predominantly rural community. Here are three residents doing exactly that, a small sampling of the craftsmanship and originality that carries Dickson creations far and wide.

Jim Marvin Enterprises

Jim Marvin Enterprises, owned by Jim Marvin, is a leader in design and color decorations for holidays, floral arrangements and gifts. Marvin started the business in 1975, and creating his collections involves travel to Europe, Asia, India and Japan, where he has international clients.

One of his most notable projects is his work at the White House. Since 1997, Marvin has helped create products for the White House Christmas season and also designed floral decorations for state dinners, parties and celebrations, and the 2001 inaugural transition.

The company’s corporate office, showroom and outlet center are located in Dickson, and it also has new locations in Dallas and Atlanta.

Billie Mochow

Art can be edible, as Billie Mochow in Burns has shown the world  for more than 20 years through her impressive sweets. A talented designer, specializing in cakes, confections, gingerbread and sweets, Mochow’s cakes have appeared on blogs including ashleysbrideguide.com’s Favorite Cakes for Nashville Grooms list and Elizabeth Anne Designs.

Most notably, Mochow competed in the the Grove Park Inn & Spa’s Gingerbread Competition, where her snow-globe village won in 2007 and her reindeer carousel gingerbread house took first place in 2008.

Moonshine Custom Guitars

With music, it’s not just how you play but what you play. Customers can find handcrafted unique instruments at Moonshine Custom Guitars. Owned by Rick Wilson, the company specializes in repair, restoration and customization of guitars from all decades, and creates one-of-a-kind pieces using hand-selected materials, attention to detail and years of experience. Ideas are welcome, too. Customers can bring in ideas and plans, and Moonshine will build string instruments perfectly to suit.
