The Knox County school system believes all students in every school should receive quality instruction and an effective syllabus -- beginning at the elementary school level. And high school students have multiple options and pathways of high-level coursework to achieve a meaningful and valuable diploma.

A Town Decked in Orange

And who could think about Knoxville without thinking about those waves of orange at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville? The university has more than 26,000 students enrolled and more than 8,000 staff members and offers more than 100 degree programs.

Magnetic Education

Promoting equity and excellence is something that magnet schools want to promote. Magnet schools offer parents a choice in the public school education of their children. True to their name, these schools focus on a specific curriculum that acts as a magnet, drawing students from a variety of social, economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds. The students find common ground through their studies. Knoxville’s five magnet schools – Austin-East Magnet High School, Vine Middle Performing Arts & Sciences Magnet School, Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Technology Academy, Green Magnet Math and Science Academy, and Beaumont Honors Magnet Academy – each focus on specific disciplines such as math, science, technology and the performing arts to help students prepare for future careers in those fields.

Graduation as the Goal

ProjectGRAD (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams), a program that originated in 1988 as a scholarship program for high school seniors, now includes scholarships, summer institutes, social service support for families of students, discipline initiatives and math and reading programs.
