If golf is your bag in Nashville, the warm climate and large number of public and private golf courses make it possible to get a tee time almost any month of the year. Here is a brief overview:

Private Golf Courses

Nashville has three private membership courses: Belle Meade Country Club, Hillwood Country Club and Richland Country Club. All are 18 holes and par 72, and each venue measures more than 6,700 yards. Belle Meade has been around since 1901 and was designed by the famed Donald Ross, while Hillwood spans almost 7,000 yards from the longest tees. Richland opened in 1988 and was designed by Jack Nicklaus.

Public Golf Courses

Nashville is home to 10 public facilities that are all open 12 months a year, and seven of the courses are owned and operated by the city itself. One of the venues – Percy Warner Golf Course – is a nine-hole course that measures 2,655 yards and plays as a par 34, while Harpeth Hills Golf Course is a par 72 championship layout surrounded by a natural wildlife habitat.

One of the most visited venues is McCabe Golf Course, which features 27 holes in West Nashville in the Sylvan Park area. The other excellent public offerings are Nashboro Golf Club, Shelby Golf Course, Ted Rhodes Golf Course, Two Rivers Golf Course and VinnyLinks Golf Course.

Resort Golf Course

Gaylord Springs Golf Links is considered a resort course because it is part of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel vacation destination complex. The Scottish links-style public course is carved from the banks of the Cumberland River, and its 18 challenging holes are bordered by limestone bluffs and enhanced by federally protected wetlands. It was designed by former U.S. Open and PGA champion Larry Nelson, and the signature fourth hole features a century-old springhouse from which the club derived its name. An antebellum-style clubhouse offers guests shopping, dining, meeting rooms and banquet rooms.

Franklin Golf Courses

Franklin features public and private courses surrounded by rolling green hills and horse farms. Legends Club has two 18-hole courses, one for members and one for outside play, with wide open fairways, some mounding and a few sand bunkers. Other local courses can be found at Temple Hills Golf and Country Club, Forrest Crossing and the Old Natchez Country Club.
