Best Roadside Attraction Near Tucson: The Mission San Xavier Del Bac is a gorgeous, incredibly ornate church, often reviewed by tourists with remarks such as, “amazing — and I don’t normally care for churches or temples!” It’s a National Historic Landmark and the oldest intact European structure in Arizona.

Our Favorite Road Trip Route: Tucson to Phoenix with a stop at The Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. Phoenix to the Gila National Forest for swimming or horseback riding, stopping along the way at Besh Ba Gowah, an ancient archeological site. Gila National Forest back to Tucson, taking a detour to Big Nose Katie’s Saloon, a saloon that’s been in operation since 1880.
