Dismal Swamp State Park

Opened to the public in 2008, Dismal Swamp State Park spans more than 14,000 acres on the North Carolina/Virginia border. Perhaps its most popular attraction is Dismal Swamp Canal, used by recreational boaters to access the Intracoastal Waterway. The park also has many miles of hiking and biking trails.

Golf

There is only one 18-hole golf course in Elizabeth City, and what a course it is. The Pines at Elizabeth City is a championship-level venue that spans 7,017 yards and features wide fairways and fast greens. Golfers can also play two 9-hole, par-3 courses in Elizabeth City: Knobbs Creek Golf Course and Matthew Creek Golf Course.

South Park Sports Complex

The $2.7 million South Park Sports Complex has five baseball/softball fields, all equipped with lights for night games. There is also a playground, picnic pavilion, concession stands, restrooms area, baseball batting cage, softball batting cage and golf driving range.

River Road Soccer Complex

Youth soccer has a great facility at River Road Soccer Complex, which features five lighted fields conveniently located across from River Road Middle School. The River Road facility brings players and families together at a central location in Elizabeth City.

Fun Junktion

Fun Junktion is a family-friendly park for field trips or family gatherings. The 133-acre expanse in Elizabeth City features a skate park, children's playground, nature trail and picnic area. Two man-made ponds are stocked with catch-and-release fish. Admission is free.

Dixieland Speedway

From April through September, one of the most popular attractions in the Elizabeth City area is Dixieland Speedway. Located only 12 miles north of Elizabeth City and 25 miles from Virginia Beach, it features three racetracks for stock car, go-cart and motorcycle racing.

Pasquotank River Yacht Club

Regattas and several parties are scheduled throughout the year at Pasquotank River Yacht Club, one of four yacht clubs in the Albemarle Sound Sailing Association. A popular PRYC program is its two-week summer Junior Sailing Camp where 50 youths ages 9-16 are taught to sail.

Elizabeth Street Tennis Courts

Almost surrounded by Elizabeth, Harney and Cedar streets, the four Elizabeth Street Tennis Courts are used extensively and open all year. All the courts are lighted.

Albemarle Bowling Center

Albemarle Bowling Center has 12 lanes within its building on South Hughes Boulevard. The center offers several promotions, including late-night Rock-n-Bowl weekend sessions.

Camden Community Playground

Opened in July 2016, Camden Community Playground is an all-inclusive facility, meaning that it was designed for people of all abilities to play together. It is located in Camden Community Park.
