The GumTree Museum of Art has been decorated by the works of Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mississippi masters and Tupelo schoolchildren.

The museum, located in a Beaux Arts-style building listed on the National Historic Register in downtown Tupelo, is free of charge to the general public.

The Gumtree was established as a non-profit corporation on 1982. Since 1985, the museum has served as an educational institution for the visual arts, offering quality exhibitions, work shops, lectures, and other activities.

The museum, with its location in the circa-1905 Peoples Bank and Trust Co. building, is an important cultural asset to the state of Mississippi.

The facility also oversees the annual Gum Tree Festival, which has been occurring downtown on the County Courthouse lawn since the mid-1970s. The two-day event on Mother's Day weekend has activities such as live music, food booths, a 5K run, juried competitions for artists and craftspeople, plus new attractions each year to keep things fresh.

The Gum Tree Festival annually attracts about 30,000 people, including 100 artists and 15 songwriters for the various competitions.
