Southern Idaho Restaurants, from Fine Dining to Local Hangouts

It's easy to sink your teeth into good food in Southern Idaho with so many fine dining and local restaurants to choose from. There are even two farmers markets in Twin Falls County. Here are some samplings of the Southern Idaho food scene.

Southern Idaho: Fine Dining With a View

Canyon Crest Restaurant in Twin Falls is perched on the south rim of the Snake River Canyon, providing a beautiful backdrop for big events. Canyon Crest offers steak-and-seafood fine dining and seating for 100 customers in the lounge, another 144 diners in the restaurant and an additional 104 on the outdoor deck.

Snyder's Blue Rock Vineyard and Winery, a hilltop attraction in Buhl, is known for its wine, but there is also a steakhouse that cooks New York rib eyes and porterhouses on Friday and Saturday nights. With dinner, your wine choices include Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Casual Dining and Local Hangouts in Southern Idaho

Gertie's Brick Oven Cookery offers hungry customers an all-they-can-eat dining experience, with menu items such as pizza, pasta, salad and garlic bread. In addition to a variety of specialty pizzas such as the “Idaho” or the “Hot Mama,” Gertie's offers a wide selection of unusual dessert pizzas.

Pandora's Restaurant and Pub serves tantalizing appetizers such as a hummus platter, seasoned soybean pods, spud skins and nachos pequeno. Its entree selections are many, with items such as a veggie calzone, mahi strip sandwich, Cajun trout and butternut squash ravioli.

River Rock Grill bills itself as having the largest selection of desserts in the Valley. The restaurant also has homemade soups and dressings, entrees such as an 8-ounce Angus sirloin and fresh-caught fish, plus a large beer and wine list. And for dessert? Maybe give the luscious lemon bars a try.

The Pressbox Sports Bar and Grill in Twin Falls is known for excellent food and uniquely named menu items. For example, its Box-Ness Monster is two half-pound burger patties piled with grilled ham and turkey, bacon and sauce. You might also want to sample the Fowl Ball, a charbroiled chicken dish topped with sugar-cured ham.

The Snake River Grill in Hagerman is a hotspot that has a number of unusual menu choices, including grilled sturgeon and tender alligator bites appetizers. Breakfast items at the Snake River Grill include three-egg omelets with fresh veggies and one-pound breakfast burritos.

Southern Idaho Farmers Markets

Besides fresh produce, items for sale at the Twin Falls Farmers Market include free-range eggs, meat, poultry, herbs, flowers and homemade soaps. The spacious market convenes on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May through October, at the College of Southern Idaho Ag Endowment Farm. The Hailey Farmers Market on Heroic Road brings fresh and organic local produce and artisan foods to shoppers on Thursdays from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., June through September. You can also purchase jams and jellies, mustards, cookies, pies, breads, honey, eggs, flowers and meats.
