Lake Amistad and Lake Amistad Guide Service
Lake Amistad is one of the largest, cleanest lakes in Texas. Amistad is Spanish for friendship, and the lake offers visitors a friendly place to camp and hike. A part of the Amistad Recreation Area that is managed by the National Parks Service, the lake is home to everything from largemouth bass to Mexican tetra, making it a popular spot for fishing.
Devils River State Natural Area and Devils River Outfitters
Devils River State Natural Area spans 37,000 acres, crossing ridges, canyons and grassy banks, and showcasing the area’s diverse wildlife. The entire state natural area is primitive and isolated, but tours are available. Devils River Outfitters, a local tour service, rents canoes and kayaks, and offers shuttle services, gear and guided fishing trips. Visitors will need to bring their own food and be ready for a rugged experience in the wild.
Golf
For visitors looking for a more leisurely outdoor activity, San Felipe Country Club is a nine-hole public golf course. Golf enthusiasts may also try Leaning Pines Golf Course, a nine-hole public venue at Laughlin Air Force Base that is managed by the U.S. Air Force Services Agency. San Felipe spans 3,000 yards, and Leaning Pines stretches 3,200 yards. Both play at a par 36.
City Parks
Many of Del Rio’s parks and recreational facilities have been revamped in recent years. Carranza Park and Onslow Park have renovated their playgrounds, as well as their pavilions and bathrooms. Moore Park Pool added a new pool floor in addition to other renovations. In addition to new playground equipment, 14th Street Park now boasts a full skate park. Buena Vista Park & Pool has upgraded its pavilion and bathrooms. That park is now connected to Del Rio Lions Park by the Northside Walking Trail along Agarita Drive. The two-mile trail is paved and perfect for walking, running and biking, and includes a kid-friendly playground set.
San Felipe Creek and Horseshoe Park
San Felipe Creek produces an average of 50-90 million gallons of water per day into the Del Rio River. The creek flows for 9 miles through the center of Del Rio. Visitors can relax along the shore of the creek at Horseshoe Park, where swimming and fishing are welcome.
