If golf is your bag, then Lufkin is the place for you. The region boasts a wealth of public and private courses, many at championship caliber. And, an abundance of warm weather year-round attracts not only local players but golf vacationers as well.  In Lufkin, the signature 18-hole Crown Colony Country Club has been consistently ranked among the top 10 in all of Texas. The club, with its 6,692-yard course, offers a number of golf packages that include greens fees, meals and accommodations. The area is also home to the 18-hole Neches Pines Golf Course in Diboll, and, the 18-hole Lufkin Country Club.
Bring the family along for a trip to the multi-award winning Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin is home to some 800 creatures. The zoo houses exotic cats, giraffes, rhinos, a variety of primates and one of the largest reptile exhibits in the country. The surrounding Ellen Trout Park includes a miniature pre-Civil War train replica that takes riders through the park.   To enjoy the outdoors, take in the impressive Lake Sam Rayburn, the largest reservoir completely in the state of Texas. With over 570 miles of shoreline, there's no shortage of things to do. Activities include bass fishing, camping, canoeing, water skiing and more.   If shopping's more your style, try taking a stroll through Downtown Lufkin. Main Street serves as the historical center of Lufkin, and thanks to efforts by the City of Lufkin's Facade Improvement Program Grant, the downtown area has seen a recent surge in popularity. Visitors can take a walking tour to see some historic Lufkin sites, or enjoy one of the many restaurants, unique shops or antique collections.
