The Tyler area’s shopping opportunities start with traditional, locally owned boutiques and progress into new retail centers.

“We’re very excited about The Village at Cumberland Park, coming in December 2014,” says Shari Rickman of the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau, explaining it will contain many nice chain retailers, including World Market, Kohl’s, and Gordman’s.

Old World Style

Rickman details the current crop of charming retail outlets, many filled with locally owned businesses. One of the most distinctive is The Market at Crossing. “It’s got an old-fashioned, Old World German style,” says Rickman. “It’s the kind of place you want to spend time looking; it’s very quaint, warm and inviting.”

Among The Market’s signature stores is Moss, a flower shop with an antique and vintage air. “It’s very creative and unusual, with a very earth-friendly reputation,” says Rickman, adding Moss’ emphasis on Fair Trade. Steve’s Jewelry also stands out, selling exquisite antique pieces – it’s a store where a couple can find astonishing engagement rings, among other treasures.

The Market also houses delicious bakery The Luscious Crumb, Identity Med Spa and Salon and fashion mainstay 20 Two 10 boutique, among other retailers. Not far from the Market is Spinout, a youthful women’s boutique full of beautiful on-trend options.

Upscale Elegance

In the heart of this floral city’s Azalea District, find the Bergfeld Center, an enclave housing a wide array of upscale shops. Among the best is Mary V’s, a longtime supplier of women’s fashion aimed at Tyler’s stylish matrons and professionals. Ramsey Fritz jewelers specializes in fine wedding and engagement rings. The Village Bakery is one of the favorite spots for breads, cakes and cookies in the city.

La Piazza, meanwhile, offers Bridgette’s, a high-end women’s shop that, Rickman says, allows residents to skip shopping trips to Dallas for special occasion clothing. “They really manage perfect customer service, it’s that next level of personal attention,” she says. Harley’s men’s shop next door offers a male equivalent of the kind of upscale merchandise offered by Bridgitte’s. It’s also home to Caffe Tazza, a much beloved gourmet coffee, soup and sandwich shop.

Small and Sensational

The Shops at Old Bullard are limited in number, but worth the visit. Charming French Peas Flower Shop is very popular, and Ganache Cupcakes is renowned for its sweet treats. High Cotton Clothing specializes in on-trend, youthful men’s clothing with a Southern feel. The Writing Horse sells invitations, stationery and writing utensils, proving the written word still thrives in the digital age.

Rickman notes that Tyler is home to Tyler Candles, one of the best known artisan candle companies in the nation, famed for scents like Tyler Roses. The candles sell at Tyler retailers and nationwide, and aren’t to be missed.

If you’re looking for special shopping experiences in Tyler, it’s easy to find them.
