9 Reasons to Move to Bellevue, WA

Breathtaking views and a killer housing market are just a couple perks you'll enjoy living in this town.

By Stephanie Inman on April 19, 2016

People are flocking to this Seattle suburb for a multitude of reasons. From entertainment to wide-open outdoor spaces to a huge (and still growing) variety of employment options—no matter what you’re looking for in a home, Bellevue has it. In case you haven’t found your own reasons to move here yet, here are our favorites.

1. I mean, come on: The view

Look up. At the feature image. Get what we’re saying? The name itself should also explain it: Bellevue means “beautiful view” in French. From the Olympic and Cascade mountains backdrop to the ever-present green space that comes from the more than 100 parks maintained by the city, you’re never far from a freaking awesome view.

2. KidsQuest Children’s Museum

Of all of the things to do in Bellevue, one of the most family-friendly activities is KidsQuest. It’s the perfect place to bring your future scientists, explorers or inventors for inspiration, where they’re sure to be impressed by the huge variety of exhibits. And don’t be afraid to have fun yourself while you’re there.

3. Lake Washington

Whether you’re a water sports person, or someone who just enjoys a “peaceful walk by the lake,” Bellevue has you covered. Lake Washington separates Bellevue from Seattle, but also makes it feel a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the busy city life.

4. El Maestro del Taco

It’s not often that a food truck tops locals’ lists of best eats in town, but El Maestro does it over and over. Without any form of marketing (they don’t even have a Facebook page), you’re not likely to find out about their location unless you have a local friend in the know. But if you do, you’ll be hooked.

5. Bellevue Botanical Garden

It’s impossible to walk through this oasis of green in the middle of the city without feeling at one with nature. Near Wilburton Hill Park, the Gardens are part park, part arboretum, and all-perfect backdrop for a spring day. (Or any other day.) Best of all: it’s free.

6. It’s a great place to do business

Between its highly-educated workforce and its extremely high quality of living, Bellevue is often found on lists of best places to launch a business. It’s also very close to Redmond and its high-tech hub anchored by Microsoft’s almost 100,000 workers.

7. Because the housing market is killing it

The area’s median home price is $525,000, but people are still flocking there, in part because it has turned into one of the region’s primary business hubs. Home prices also benefit from the extremely high quality of life its residents enjoy.

8. The Shops at the Bravern

You might not think of shopping as a reason to move to a city, but The Shops at the Bravern isn’t your average strip mall. Instead it’s a high class haven of just about every high end brand you can think of, from Tory Burch to Gucci to Jimmy Choo

9. Because we voted it one of The Best 100 Places to Live in the U.S.

If you didn’t find your reason to relocate here, there are plenty more where these came from. Bellevue didn’t just make the list—it came in second place out of all 2,000 cities we ranked, based on over 40 different criteria.
