Williamson County, TN Tops Nation for Job Growth

Officials credit diverse economy for success.

The winner is: Williamson County, Tennessee (which includes Franklin, Brentwood and Spring Hill), for having the highest percentage of job growth from September 2014 to September 2015 compared to other large counties in the nation, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Top Employers in Williamson County & Franklin

The Middle Tennessee county (population 205,000) saw a 6.8 percent increase in growth compared to the nation’s rate of 1.9 percent, with Williamson County seeing its biggest job gains in office administration as well as business and financial management. In addition, county officials estimate that 24,000 more jobs will be added to the local economy over the next 10 years.

“The best news is that we have a strong economy that is diverse, with several sectors represented,” says Elizabeth McCreary, vice president of economic development for Williamson, Inc. “This national recognition will bring even more businesses to our area, because companies are attracted to places that have a healthy economy.”

Prior to the announcement, Williamson County already had much going for it. Officials keep taxes and government regulations as low as possible for companies, and schools are ranked among Tennessee’s best. Residents enjoy a calendar full of fun community events, proximity to Nashville as well as a thriving music, arts and entertainment scene of its own.

As a result, several major companies have established regional or national headquarters in Williamson County, including Community Health Systems, Jackson National Life, Mars Petcare, Nissan North America, Tractor Supply Company and Verizon Wireless.

“We have an economic partnership where we invite county and city leaders to sit at one table and discuss the right companies to attract to Williamson County, ” McCreary says. “We recruit and welcome new businesses to Williamson County as much as possible, but the No. 1 focus at our Williamson, Inc. office is to help existing businesses succeed and expand.”
