Gillette-Campbell County, WY Schools Offer More Choices, Programs

Public Schools

As the third-largest school district in Wyoming, Campbell County School District No. 1 continues to grow both in the number of students it serves and the quality of education and programs it offers. The district serves approximately 8,750 students in 23 schools including the new Stocktrail Elementary School, opened in August 2016, which offers offers a Spanish-speaking Dual Language Immersion program. Students are granted admission to the new school though a lottery system. CCSD also participates in Project Lead the Way, a national program aimed at encouraging students to pursue careers in science, technology and engineering.



In fall 2017, students will begin attending the community’s newest school, Thunder Basin High School, which is the school system’s second high school.

The Children’s Development Center of Campbell County offers early intervention services for preschool children with developmental disabilities and delays.

Private Schools and Programs

Campbell County offers families several private and parochial school choices, as well as preschool and after-school options. St. John Paul II Catholic School provides faith-based instruction for students in pre-K through sixth grade, while Heritage Christian School enrolls students from pre-K through 12th grade. Learning starts early in Campbell County, and the Christian-based Preschool Academy provides a creative and nurturing environment for youngsters to develop their social and academic skills.

Other Educational Programs

Parents looking for a safe place for their children to go after school can find it at the Boys & Girls Club of Campbell County. The organization offers members tutoring, mentoring and organized sports. The Campbell County Public Library System offers story times for young children, book clubs for school-age kids and computer classes for adults.

Higher Education

Part of the Northern Wyoming Community College District, Gillette College offers more than a dozen two-year degrees and certificates in programs ranging from biology and nursing to history and machine tool technology. The $39.9 million Technology Education Center at Gillette College trains students in areas such as welding technology, mining technology and industrial safety. The Tech Center also offers customized employee training for companies. In addition, Gillette College recently opened the Pronghorn Center, a 52,000-square-foot venue that hosts sporting events and includes spaces for academic programs.

The University of Wyoming Northeast Regional Center in Gillette provides academic support and counseling for students enrolled in the university’s distance learning program.
