A quick look around Prattville and Autauga County—or, better yet, a longer stay—make clear why the region is among Alabama’s fastest-growing communities. The best in Southern suburban living is on display here, from welcoming neighborhoods and award-winning schools to bustling businesses and beautiful scenery. A high quality of life continues to draw commercial investment and, with it, new residents.

Business Advantages

Blending small-town charm with urban proximity, the region’s air-transportation options include Prattville’s Grouby Field, which has a 5,400-foot general aviation runway. Montgomery Regional Airport is just 12 miles from Prattville, and Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport puts 120 daily flights about 75 minutes away from home. Highway access is excellent, with Interstate 65 running along the eastern edge of Prattville and extending from the Gulf Coast to just southeast of Chicago.

Continued Growth

According to the 2010 Census, Prattville ranks second among the 20 most populous cities in Alabama for population growth – almost 40 percent over the past decade-plus. Although many residents still find professional employment across the river, opportunities abound in the vibrant local community.

Largest Employers

International Paper Co. creates industrial and consumer packaging products. The company’s Prattville facility employs about 600 workers.

Tenaska, one of the biggest U.S. energy-generation companies, operates power stations in the Autauga County town of Billingsley.

Medline Industries, the nation’s largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies, opened a 350,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art distribution facility in Prattville in 2011 to supply hospitals, nursing homes, surgery centers and home-care agencies throughout Alabama and northwest Florida.

On the military front, Maxwell Air Force Base, which employs about 15,000 active duty and civilian workers, is approximately 13 miles from Prattville.

Retail Variety

Prattville has attracted major national retailers while nurturing an independent, small-business scene.

Brands such as Target, Kohl’s, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Hobby Lobby, Belk, JCPenney, Ross, T.J.Maxx and many more all call Prattville home.

Bass Pro Shops offers a spacious and well-equipped haven for outdoors enthusiasts. The shop includes a restaurant and meeting rooms, and offers workshops on fly-fishing, hunting and other popular outdoor pastimes.

Meanwhile, tradition and commerce intersect in downtown Prattville, where two hardware stores, a grocery store and many specialty shops make the historic city center a fun and convenient place to shop.
