A wealth of health care options are available to residents in Fort Smith and its surrounding communities, including major hospitals that have accumulated several national awards for patient safety and satisfaction. Here are some of the leading medical facilities in Fort Smith:

Mercy Hospital Fort Smith

With more than 100 years of patient care history, Mercy Hospital Fort Smith is a 336-bed medical center whose services include a cancer center, a women’s center, wound care with hyperbaric chambers, a sleep disorders facility and a hospice, home care and palliative program. Mercy also has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit.

Sparks Regional Medical Center

The six-story Sparks Regional Medical Center has been a trusted part of the Fort Smith community since it became the first hospital in Arkansas in 1887. The hospital is known for its clinical research and advanced technology methods and serves a population in excess of 350,000 throughout Fort Smith and the surrounding 11-county area.

Sparks Medical Center-Van Buren

Previously called Summit Medical Center, the three-story Sparks Medical Center-Van Buren is a 103-bed hospital that is accredited by the Joint Commission. SMC-Van Buren is recognized for its cutting-edge treatment of pneumonia, as well as its focus on immunization vaccinations, and its staff includes physicians that specialize in more than 50 areas of medicine.

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Smith

The 80-bed HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Smith offers a full line of rehabilitation services that help patients get back to leading active and independent lives following surgery. Valley Behavioral Health System

Mercy Orthopedic Hospital

Opened in 2014, Mercy Orthopedic Hospital caters specifically to patients in need of total joint replacement in the areas of hips, knees and shoulders. With many baby boomers reaching retirement age, Mercy Orthopedic officials estimate that the number of inpatient orthopedic procedures done in Arkansas will increase by 22 percent in the next five years.

Cooper Clinic
