A great beach doesn't have to be on an ocean. Lake Havasu City, AZ has been called the best "non-ocean beach" destination in North America. It's where the kids can play while parents don't have to worry about dangerous undertows or sea creatures. You do have to watch out for college kids though. Some areas of the lake do become party grounds.
Beyond water activities like fishing, paddling, swimming, riding jet skis, skiing behind speed boats, sailing and sunbathing on warm sand, there's a lot to do on land. The Lake Havasu area features hiking trails, ATV trails and scenic drives. For the more metropolitan crowd, there are four distinct shopping areas, a pair of casinos, and restaurants for all tastes and budgets.
Then there are several great excursions to choose from, all within a short drive from the lake. These include: The Grand Canyon Caverns; Chloride, the oldest continuously inhabited mining town in Arizona; and the Ahakhav Tribal Preserve.
Don't Miss: Keepers of the Wild, a 175-acre nature park located north of Lake Havasu City.
