UPDATE: Check out our new 2023 Best Cities to Live in the U.S. list.

#35. Sugar Land

If you’ve read world-renowned urbanist Richard Florida, you’ll know that successful cities are built upon two pillars: diversity and an arts and culture scene. It’s no coincidence, then, that Houston suburb Sugar Land is on this list and has both, ranking 2nd in diversity and in the top 10 for culture. It ranks in the top 5 for safety, and is also a popular spot for creatives, ranking in the top 10 for percent of them in the work force. Bottomline: It’s a great place to live and a hotbed for innovation. Only drawback? It’s one of the most expensive cities on this list.
