#5. Albany

While residents of Albany, Ga., typically describe their political views as more conservative than liberal, voters here have kept a Democratic congressman in office for more than 100 years. Voters in surrounding Dougherty County haven’t backed a Republican for president in 25 years. Sanford Bishop, described as a rank-and-file Democrat by GovTrack, represents Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Albany. Bishop aligns with many conservatives when it comes to fiscal policies. He also strongly supports the Second Amendment and received an A+ grade from the National Rifle Association. Bishop calls for stronger border security and immigration enforcement, but also supports the DREAM Act.

Albany voters elected the city’s first female mayor, Democrat Dorothy Hubbard, in 2011. The Georgia Republican Party opened a full-time office in Albany last year.
