#3. Indio

Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney by a margin of just 1.6 percent in Riverside County, which includes Indio, Calif. Many of the residents in surrounding Coachella Valley identify themselves as Republicans. Indio voters and the 36th Congressional District have leaned more towards the left of the political spectrum. However, many Indio residents hold conservative views when it comes to fiscal policies and immigration.

U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz won the district seat in 2012. That seat has been held by Democrats since 2001. Ruiz is a member of the bipartisan Small Business Caucus, which focuses on bringing Democrats and Republicans together to support small business growth and development. He is also a part of No Labels Problem Solvers, a group of solution-oriented politicians trying to end partisan bickering in Congress.
