#6. Flower Mound
This family-friendly town is ideal for those looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation, and who enjoy spending time outdoors – particularly in or on the water. That’s because Flower Mound is situated on the northern edge of Grapevine Lake, an 8,000-acre reservoir, where people love to swim, sail and fish, and on the lake’s north shore is Twin Coves Park, another top spot for water recreation.
For more water adventure, head to Flower Mound’s Community Activity Center (CAC) Outdoor Water Park, which is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day and includes two large water slides, a 60-gallon dumping bucket, interactive water features, a lazy river, a water play structure and more. The CAC also has an indoor pool that’s open throughout the year and features a splash pad, 150-foot slide, diving board, basketball hoop and two AquaClimb climbing walls.
Prefer to stay dry? No problem. Flower Mound has fantastic golf facilities, including 18-hole courses at Bridlewood Golf Club and Tour 18 Dallas, and the city has created an impressive trail system that covers more than 59 miles and is perfect for walking, jogging and biking. Plus, there’s Green Acres Farm Memorial Park, where many locals enjoy peaceful picnics and hikes.
Those interested in shopping can check out The Highlands of Flower Mound that’s home to popular stores along with several restaurants.
New to Flower Mound is The Riverwalk at Central Park, a 158-acre mixed-use development that will soon feature a variety of restaurants, shops and an amphitheater, along with offices, residences, hotels, a farmers market and a splash pad for children. This highly-anticipated development will serve as the community’s downtown district, and it is expected to be completed in 2018.
