In an area known mostly for its wine, Sonoma County's Santa Rosa is a stalwart beer city. Residents appreciate and preserve nature, and Santa Rosa has several breweries that have operated in the city for at least 10 years. They include Fogbelt Brewing Co., Third Street Aleworks and Russian River Brewing Co. The latter is the brewery that put Santa Rosa on the beer map and really helped lead the revitalization of the downtown in one of our perennial Best Places to Live. Our pick is the award-winning Pliny the Elder, which is thankfully available year-round. Pliny the Younger, a triple IPA, draws huge crowds during its two-week run at the brewery.
