#58. College Station, TX

College Station is an energetic city in southeast Texas that you’ll often hear mentioned alongside its sister city, Bryan. Bustling with students and professors, College Station is home to Texas A&M University and is affectionately referred to as “Aggieland” (nearby, Bryan is home to Blinn College). This means the city has a constant stream of well-educated, talented employees ready and willing to get to work in tech companies, manufacturing facilities and beyond. College Station also offers residents an affordable quality of life, complete with excellent schools, top-notch healthcare, plenty of parks and warm weather.

Top Industries and Employers: Education is king here, followed by information technology, healthcare and manufacturing.

Best Coffee Shop: Lupa’s Coffee, where you might find A&M students working on homework or friends chatting over a latte made with house-made syrup.

Best Local Beer/Brewery: New Republic Brewing, where you’ll find live music and food trucks on the weekend and whimsically named beers like hoppy amber “Dammit Jim!”

Must-Have Meal: Brisket with fried okra and macaroni and cheese from C&J BBQ, which originally started in a gas station in 1981.

Best Co-Working Space: SoCoWork has everything freelancers, professionals and entrepreneurs need to get to work, including spacious work stations, meeting rooms, patio space and much more.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): Rough Draught Whiskey Bar, which has 275 whiskeys and 30 craft beers to choose from. This dog-friendly spot has awesome daily specials and great happy hour prices.

Creative Hub: Want to do something artsy? Look no further than the Arts Council of Brazos Valley, which hosts tons of regular events in art, history, poetry, literature, culture, music, theater and more. They also organize artistic programs like spring break art camps, after school art sessions and classes.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Birdwatching, hiking or cycling through the 523-acre Lick Creek Park followed by wine tasting at Peach Creek Vineyards.

Free Way to Have Fun: The Fun For All Playground at Central Park is an epic, inclusive playground for children, teens and adults of all abilities.

Local Dream Job: Soil and crop researcher at Texas A&M, where scientists are studying water quality, crops, turf, ecosystems and bioenergy.
