#54. Greenville, SC

Join the more than 68,000 people who call Greenville home, thanks to its rich southern history, riverfront parks and trails and impressive quality of life. Located in northwest South Carolina, Greenville is full of youthful energy and offers an affordable cost of living for young professionals and families alike. If craft beer is your thing, you’ll be in heaven here, since there are more than 15 craft breweries in the Greenville region. But above all else, Greenville is a place where you and your family will thrive, thanks to a strong job market in energy, healthcare, education and automotive and other types of manufacturing.

Top Industries and Employers: Michelin, GE, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and Prisma Health are some of Greenville’s top employers.

Best Coffee Shop: Coffee Underground is a cozy spot on, well, Coffee Street, so you know it’s legit. More importantly, the coffee shop has served as a community hub since it opened in 1995, thanks largely to its theater room, which hosts an array of events like poetry, sketch comedy, salons and film screenings.

Best Local Beer/Brewery: It’s nearly impossible to pick just one, but Birds Fly South Ale Project is a great place to hang out and enjoy a Saison or farmhouse ale.

Must-Have Meal: Beer-butt chicken with a side of squash casserole at Smoke on the Water.

Best Co-Working Space: Atlas Local, located inside the historic Brandon Mill. They offer all the typical co-working perks, plus free local coffee and beer.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): UP on the Roof, which, as the name suggests is an awesome rooftop bar with great views

Creative Hub: Centre Stage. In addition to hosting plays and musicals, the 285-seat theater hosts art exhibitions, concerts, independent film screens, lectures and more.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Hit up the Saturday Market for produce, specialty foods and crafts, then head to one of the region’s many natural areas for some nature time — Paris Mountain State Park or Poinsett Bridge Heritage Preserve, for instance.

Free Way to Have Fun: Spend the day at Falls Park on the Reedy, an oasis with trails, gardens and waterfalls. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the public art throughout the park.

Local Dream Job: Culinary tour guide, so you can show people (and experience!) Greenville’s awesome foodie scene on a regular basis.
