#25. Longmont, CO

The city of Longmont was founded by a group of risk-takers in 1871 and has never lost that spirit of spunk and determination. With a historic, walkable downtown full of restaurants, distilleries, breweries, coffee shops and arts hubs, Longmont has so much to offer you won’t want to leave. The city, home to roughly 95,000 residents, has incredible views of the mountains, tons of parks and open space and a true feeling of community. On top of that, Longmont is a “Gig City” thanks to its city-owned fiber-optic internet service that’s ridiculously fast and affordable.

Top Industries and Employers: Healthcare, tech and manufacturing

Best Coffee Shop: La Vita Bella Cafe, a cozy spot on Main Street that doubles as a cocktail bar.

Best Local Beer/Brewery: Hop aboard the Brewhop Trolley and spend the day riding around to all of Longmont’s awesome breweries — Oskar Blues, Left Hand and Wibby, just to name a few — in a trolley car.

Must-Have Meal: A bowl of French onion soup and a baguette sandwich from Cheese Importers, home of the largest walk-in refrigerator (full of cheese!) in Colorado.

Best Co-Working Space: CoSolve Coworking, located right downtown in the same building as a cidery and distillery.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): Quarters Bar + Arcade, a hip spot with retro arcade games, skee-ball leagues and a serve-yourself wall of craft beer, hard seltzer and cider.

Creative Hub: Longmont’s entire downtown is an official creative district, certified by the state of Colorado, so you really can’t go wrong. But a few local favorites include Crackpots Pottery Studio, Barbed Wire Books and Absolute Vinyl Records & Stereo.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Perusing the farm-fresh offerings at the Boulder County Farmers Market on Saturday morning, followed by a leisurely walk around McIntosh Lake.

Free Way to Have Fun: Birding at Sandstone Ranch, a 313-acre natural area where you can often spot bald eagles, owls and tons of other birds.

Local Dream Job: Distiller at Dry Land Distillers, which makes unique booze like heirloom wheat whiskey and a mezcal-style cactus spirit.
