#57. Manchester, NH

Besides being famous for producing some of the biggest names in comedy — including Sarah Silverman, Seth Meyers and Adam Sandler — Manchester, NH, a small city located in the southern part of the state, is known for its friendliness to small business as well as its highly educated population, making it ripe with opportunity for young entrepreneurs.

In addition to its business chops, Manchester is located right on the Merrimack River and has over 2,000 acres of green space, making it a destination for leaf peepers in the fall who enjoy those changing New England colors.

Top Industries and Employers: The largest industries in Manchester are manufacturing, financial services and healthcare with Elliot Hospital and Southern New Hampshire University serving as the largest employers.

Best Coffee Shop: Cafe La Reine is a cozy space in the historic downtown that sells coffee brewed from regional beans.

Best Local Beer/Brewery: The Tie Dyed Dry Hopped Pale Ale from Great North Aleworks is award winning and crisp for a summer day

Must-Have Meal: When in New England, do as the New Englanders do by ordering New England Lobster Scallop Ravioli made with local seafood from Cotton, which is housed in a former mill site.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): A password is required to enter 815 Cocktails and Provisions, a speakeasy-style bar with rare whiskies.

Creative Hub: Currier Museum of Art houses works by Picasso, Monet, O’Keeffe, Wyeth and LeWitt and also offers tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Zimmerman House for those architecture geeks among us.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Catching a cool performance at the historic Palace Theatre — the first air conditioned theater in New Hampshire, built in 1914.

Free Way to Have Fun: Hiking and biking around Lake Massabesic, a picturesque 2,500 acre lake.

Local Dream Job: A curator at the Currier Museum of Art in charge of the Frank Lloyd Wright house exhibitions — who may or may not fantasize about living there permanently.
