Maybe you’ve never heard of Pflugerville, and that’s OK, but it’s a city you should really get to know ASAP. Located northeast of Austin, this fast-growing city is on the rise thanks to a booming regional economy, an affordable cost of living and family-friendly amenities. Tons of young professionals and families are moving to Pflugerville to work in high-tech manufacturing, 3D printing and other fields. The city is making a concerted effort to maintain its small-town charm and community focus, while also being proactive about development and growth.
Top Industries and Employers: Tech, manufacturing and construction are all growing industries here.
Best Coffee Shop: West Pecan Coffee + Beer, where you can sit with friends among the colorful eclectic decor and enjoy specialty coffee. As you might have guessed from the name, they also serve local craft beer.
Best Local Beer/Brewery: Try the Fistful of Fury Hazy IPA from Willard’s Brewery.
Must-Have Meal: The brisket grilled cheese at Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue is as delicious as it sounds.
Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): The Growler Bar, which has more than 60 beers, wines, kombuchas, coffees and root beers on tap and delicious pizzas.
Creative Hub: Lib Con, an annual event at the Pflugerville Public Library, brings together artists, authors, voice actors, cosplayers and other creative types for a day of Q&A panels and other events.
Favorite Weekend Activity: Cooling off at the various splash pads around town, including Falcon Pointe Splash Park and Northeast Metropolitan Park, which also offer tons of other fun things to do for both kids and adults. Scott Mentzer Pool is also a great place to spend the day.
