#68. Provo, UT

Provo is part of the larger Utah Valley, a fast-growing region in central Utah. Family is the focus here, with kid-friendly amenities baked into nearly every facet of Provo. It’s a safe, clean environment for families to lay down roots, with tons of jobs available thanks to Provo’s high-performing economy. Tech companies like Qualtrics, Wavetronix and Novatek are setting up shop, giving rise to the region’s nickname “Silicon Slopes.” Google Fiber’s super high-speed internet is here, too, so you can stay connected to the rest of the world. Of course, Provo also offers incredible access to nature and outdoor recreation, so if you’re looking for a home base that offers an outstanding quality of life, consider Provo.

Top Industries and Employers: Brigham Young University, Utah Valley Hospital, local school districts and home security company Vivint are some of Provo’s largest employers.

Best Coffee Shop: Peace on Earth, a downtown gathering space that also serves cocktails, beer, kombucha and a full menu of food.

Must-Have Meal: You can make an entire meal out of kolaches, right? Good, glad we agree. Grab a savory or sweet kolache at Hruska’s Kolaches, like chicken cilantro omelet or raspberry Nutella.

Best Co-Working Space: The Startup Building, which also doubles as an event space. Here you’ll find suites, private offices, flex space and fixed desks.

Best Meetup Spot (When Meeting Up Is a Thing Again): Communal, a downtown spot that works with local farmers and purveyors and has an impressive selection of wines.

Creative Hub: Pioneer Book, the largest used and rare bookshop in Utah County, hosts tons of artsy, community-oriented events like poetry open mic nights, jam sessions, poetry writing workshops and art strolls.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Folks in Provo love to ski. And why shouldn’t they? Utah has some of the best, fluffiest powder you’ll find. On weekends, they often venture to Sundance Mountain Resort, just 15 miles away.

Free Way to Have Fun: Hike up to Bridal Veil Falls, a natural waterfall in Provo Canyon. Pack a picnic lunch to bring with you and hang out by Provo River for the day.

Local Dream Job: Tech startup founder. Even though you’ll be working crazy long hours to get your business off the ground, you’ll be doing it in a gorgeous place alongside your family.
