Davis residents take particular pride in being politically active and socially conscious; in fact, one of their recent civic causes was supporting construction of a tunnel under a street so that toads could cross without getting hit by cars. That right there is the magic of Davis.
In addition to a quirky and passionate population, Davis boasts a vast network of bike lanes and is actually home to the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame. This college town just outside Sacramento is also strong in education, led by the University of California, Davis, which has nearly 10,000 students.
The city rates high in healthcare with well-regarded facilities such as Sutter Davis Hospital, and the community is recognized for hosting the annual World Earth Festival that features a continuous stream of bands, speakers and various workshops throughout Mother’s Day weekend.
