#73. Marietta, GA

Located just 30 minutes north of downtown Atlanta, Marietta is one of the city’s largest suburbs, but thanks to its many amenities, the city stands on its on. With a population just over 62,000, Marietta maintains a relatively low cost of living while providing high-quality housing options and a tight-knit community for residents.

Home to Saturn FFC and a short drive to the Braves’ Suntrust Park, sports lovers will never be bored here. The city is also a popular destination for true crime buffs as JonBenet Ramsey is buried in the cemetery at St. James Episcopal Church.

Local Obsession: The ‘Big Chicken.’ No, seriously. In 1993 the historic sign was damaged from a storm and locals rallied together to have it fully restored. Today, directions such as ‘take a right at the big chicken’ are commonplace.

Climate Described in 6 Words or Less: Expect the unexpected … it’s the South.

Top Industries and Employers: Ever heard of Home Depot? Its technology is based out of Marietta. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is based here, too.

Local Dream Job: Curator at the Gone with the Wind Museum, which houses the original honeymoon gown worn by the film’s Scarlett O’Hara along with other historic memorabilia.

Quintessential Meal: Stop in at Spring, an award-winning restaurant focused on seasonality and sustainability. Be sure to end your meal with their signature Gianduja custard, which combines hazelnut and cherry flavors.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Exploring Marietta Square. Located in historic downtown, the Square is home to dozens of shops and restaurants and a weekly farmers’ market.

After-Work Meetup Spot: wr Social House

Best Brewery/Local Beer: Choose any of the rotating meads on tap at Viking Alchemist Meadery, made from 100% local Georgia honey.

Free Way to Have Fun: Enjoy the annual Glover Park Concert Series from April through September.

Hidden Gem: The Loft is a truly unique space that hosts contemporary fine art from gallery 43 as well as an event venue that aims to connect rising stars with established artists and provide residents with great work.
