With a deep talent base, an abundance of available land, a strong transportation network and a desirable quality of life, the Victor Valley has become a destination for relocating and expanding businesses.

Among those companies is Aemerge RedPak, a manufacturer of technology for handling waste and producing energy. Headquartered in Hesperia, the company broke ground on a new $55 million medical waste treatment facility that is scheduled to create some 30 new jobs.

“Aemerge was attracted to the business-friendly environment, access to technical and industrial workforce, modern infrastructure, affordable real estate and proximity to a large population base,†says Adam Seger, president and CEO of Aemerge RedPak. “In fact, two of our top three variables in locating were the location and skilled workforce. The affordable housing, proximity to outdoor activities and a community feel were also factors impacting our employees’ relocation decisions.”

Location Cubed

Even with a population nearing 450,000, the Victor Valley still offers hundreds of acres of undeveloped land primed for industry relocation and expansion. The availability of reasonably priced land allows small companies to start up and larger companies to expand. With the availability of open spaces and need to provide services to a growing population, the Victor Valley offers new businesses a growing clientele ready to enjoy new service and retail options close to home.

The region’s proximity to Los Angeles and access to the rest of the country via Interstate 15 is also highly desirable for companies, and the close proximity to Ontario International Airport gives the region a transportation advantage.

“The Victor Valley is located in the nexus of a transportation network. Most of the nation’s goods from the Los Angeles ports are moved through Cajon Pass eastward,†says Yvonne Hester, director of community outreach and cultural relations with Mojave Water Agency.

The Air Out There

In addition, the region’s location in the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District means healthier air quality than the Los Angeles area and local air requirements that are not as onerous. The air quality also offers health benefits and makes the region’s numerous outdoor recreation opportunities more accessible and enjoyable.

“(The) Victor Valley is home to some of the best air quality in California,†says Martial Haprov, community relations and education specialist for the district, which enjoys a reputation as among the most business-friendly air pollution control authorities of the state’s 35 air districts.

“This allows developers a remarkably easier path to constructing long-lasting, viable business locations without the overly restrictive nature of regulations in other locations such as the Greater Los Angeles region south of the Cajon Pass,†Haprov says.

Smart Starts

An educated and highly skilled workforce also plays a major role in the region’s economic development success. The region’s school districts have been quick to adapt to the ever-changing needs of students and the business community. They deliver an education that gears students toward promising career paths, be that college, the military or a technical career.

Victor Valley College offers a variety of workforce training and professional development courses in high-growth areas, such as advanced manufacturing, health care, aviation, and transportation and logistics. The college also partners with private industry to develop a comprehensive curriculum that ensures students receive in-demand skills.

A variety of partnerships exist between industry, Victor Valley College, local high schools and programs offered by San Bernardino County. The college, for example, partners on an aviation program with aviation companies at Southern California Logistics Airport. Additionally, high school STEM programs partner with local companies and government agencies through internship programs and more.

Natural Attractions

The region’s quality-of-life amenities, which include affordable and diverse housing options, a strong health care system and an abundance of recreational opportunities, only add to the Victor Valley’s appeal.

“The Victor Valley’s climate makes the region a great place to play,†says Hester of the Mojave Water Agency. “With near year-round sunshine, residents enjoy outdoor activities, including running, cycling and hiking, and equestrian activities. With the region’s proximity to the San Bernardino Mountains, skiing and other winter sports are just 45 minutes away. Within a two-hour drive, residents can enjoy southern California beaches or nightlife in Los Angeles.”
