Fort Collins is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and has some of the most scenic locations in the country. It’s the perfect backdrop for any outdoor activity. The city has everything from mountain biking to snowboarding to kayaking. Within the Fort Collins area there are the Cache la Poudre River, Horsetooth Reservoir, Carter Lake, Pinewood Lake and the Big Thompson River, where many enjoy fly-fishing and other water sports.

Back on land, local residents and visitors alike are often found rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and camping at scenic locales such as Rocky Mountain National Park, the Roosevelt National Forest and the Pawnee National Grassland. Hikers can find hundreds of miles of trails in and around Fort Collins. Within the city limits alone are more than 250 miles of paved biking trails, which are used for both commuting and recreation.

The city of Fort Collins received the silver award by the League of American Bicyclists, as a Bicycle Friendly Community and they are only one of 12 communities in the United States that hold this honor. Other awards include the platinum, gold and bronze. And thanks to progressive city policies, bikers – and all outdoor enthusiasts – will continue to enjoy a beautiful and clean environment for years to come.
