In addition to an ideal location and a picturesque setting, the Fort Collins educational system adds to the town’s enriching quality of life.

Go, Rams!

If you were to ask a Fort Collins resident about Colorado education, they would undoubtedly tell you about Colorado State University. Not only is CSU a first-rate college, but it is also an integral part of the Fort Collins community. In addition to housing world-class teaching and research programs, the eight colleges within CSU house special programs that reach out to their community. With colleges of natural sciences, medicine, engineering, human sciences, natural resources, business, liberal arts and agricultural sciences, CSU enrolls students from all 50 states as well as from 85 foreign countries.

Community College at its Finest

CSU is not the only academic option for high school graduates. Students are served well at Front Range Community College-Larimer Campus. The college at the base of the Rocky Mountains has a current enrollment of more than 5,000 students. FRCC-Larimer has truly become a first-choice campus for students right out of high school. With a reasonable tuition, FRCC-Larimer attracts the more frugal-minded students. And with smaller classroom settings, the community college offers a more individual-minded teaching environment.

Focus on Education

And let’s not forget the school districts. Poudre School District is the ninth-largest district in Colorado and growing. Thirteen new schools have been built in Fort Collins since 1986. This school district, in an effort to create a model system, implemented the International Baccalaureate program in several of its schools. The program allows students to follow a challenging curriculum with a global perspective. In addition to receiving a special IB diploma, students can earn up to a year’s worth of college credits if they fully complete the program.

A Different Approach

Interested in a school that is a bit out of the ordinary? How about a grade school with no computers? Sounds far-fetched, but that is one of the many unusual teaching approaches utilized at River Song Waldorf School. The 15-year-old private school – one of many private school options in the Fort Collins area – teaches with The Waldorf system. The Waldorf system advocates developing the whole child, including their imaginations, desire to learn, social skills, manners and creativity. With such diversity in school types and programs, Fort Collins is sure to have something that can accommodate seekers of knowledge in any walk of life. From the graduate or the toddler to the businessman who wants a second degree, there is a place for anyone in the Fort Collins school systems.
