Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley, CO
Greeley / City of Greeley
The Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley, Colo., is a popular attraction for kids of all ages.

Greeley is packed with family-friendly destinations and activities, so entertaining kids of all ages is never a problem. Here are eight fun options for families in Greeley:

1. Colorado Model Railroad Museum

With over 600 railroad-related artifacts and a 5,500-square-foot operating model railroad, the Colorado Model Railroad Museum at the Greeley Freight Station has more than enough for kids and parents alike to discover. Located in the Greeley Creative District, the museum has been named the city’s No. 1 attraction by TripAdvisor users.

2. Family FunPlex

Kids have plenty to do at Greeley’s Family FunPlex, such as splashing at Adventure Island, the facility’s indoor water park, and playing miniature golf on an 18-hole course. Plus, adjacent to the Family FunPlex are a softball complex, a sensory playground and trails – all perfect for kids who need to burn off a little extra energy. What’s not to love?

3. Bowling

The whole family can participate in friendly competition at two Greeley bowling alleys: Highland Park Lanes and Chippers Lanes. Both locations host cosmic bowling on Friday nights and at various times on Saturdays, and Chippers Lanes also offers laser tag and arcade games.

4. Greeley Ice Haus

Hit the ice at the Greeley Ice Haus, which hosts family skate sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. These affordable sessions cost $14 for two adults and as many as four children, and that price includes skate rental.

5. Water activities

During warm-weather months, Greeley’s water activities offer opportunities for families to enjoy fun in the sun. Options include Centennial Pool, a public facility with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, splash pad, diving board and two slides; Sunrise Splash Park; Island Grove Splash Park; and Discovery Bay Waterpark. In addition, families can enjoy year-round swimming at the Greeley Recreation Center’s indoor pool.

6. Movie theaters

Need to beat the heat or escape from the cold? See a family-friendly movie at Cinemark, located inside the Greeley Mall, or The Kress Cinema & Lounge. Although The Kress only shows a few movies at a time, it offers a full menu, making it perfect for families looking to pair lunch or dinner with entertainment.

7. Outdoor recreation

Explore Greeley’s many parks and outdoor destinations, such as the Poudre River Trail, which stretches 21 miles along the Cache La Poudre River between Greeley and Windsor. Many families also enjoy visiting Pawnee National Grassland, located just outside of Greeley and ideal for hiking, horseback riding and camping. Just looking for a playground and a picnic? The city has plenty of convenient places for those activities, too, like Bittersweet Park and Glenmere Park.

8. Festivals and annual events

Attend one of Greeley’s family-friendly festivals, like the Arts Picnic, an annual event with both adult activities (artists’ booths and a beer garden) and kids’ entertainment (clowns, magicians and balloon artists). At Neighborhood Nights events, families can watch movies under the stars at community parks, while the Festival of Trees gets kids into the holiday spirit with visits from St. Nick and Mrs. Claus, crafts, face painting, and horse and carriage rides. Additional family events include the Greeley Stampede, Potato Day at Centennial Village Museum, Community Fest at the University of Northern Colorado and the Colorado Farm Show.
