Pueblo CO Gagliano's Italian Market & Deli Owners

If your tastes are on the refined end of the spectrum, you’re in luck in Pueblo. The city has plenty of goodies for gourmet eaters including wine, cheese, meat and fresh-baked bread, making it the perfect place to let loose and indulge a little.

Mom-and-Pop Market

Established in 1921, Gagliano’s Italian Market & Deli, located in a small, historic building on the south side of Pueblo, is known for its authentic Italian food and ingredients. Visitors will find the market’s shelves stacked high with pastas, sauces, olive oils and cooking utensils – perfect for home cooks, while the deli features cold cuts, cheeses, homemade sausage and the popular take-and-bake Badabing Bread, which is similar to Stromboli. Family-owned Gagliano’s also offers sandwiches and chips, ideal for on-the-go eaters.

Handcrafted Cheeses

Wisconsin-based Springside Cheese chose Pueblo for its first retail shop outside of America’s Dairyland, and locals are eating it up. Springside Cheese Shop, established in 2012 near downtown Pueblo, offers several varieties of artisan cheddar, Monterey jack, Colby and Colby jack cheeses such as cheddar cheese curds, apple-cinnamon jack and jalapeno pepper Colby. Watching your weight? No problem – the shop also features reduced-fat farmers cheese, similar in taste to Monterey jack, as well as reduced fat mozzarella and reduced fat cheddar cheeses.

Specialty Wines

At 80/Twenty Wines it’s easy to find great options on a tight budget, as 80 percent of the shop’s wines are under $20. The boutique wine store, located in downtown Pueblo, features a broad selection of wines from locations such as Bordeaux, France; Rioja, Spain; Tuscany, Italy; and Mendoza, Argentina. Not sure which bottle would best complement your dinner? The shop’s knowledgeable sommeliers are well-prepared to recommend the perfect flavor pairing.

Offering a hip atmosphere, Wine Down by the River is a popular nightlife destination located next to Pueblo’s thriving Riverwalk. The wine bar offers a mix of red, white, rose and sweet wines, as well as champagne and specialty drinks like martinis, cosmopolitans and Moscow mules. Light food options are also available, such as a meat and cheese platter, tofu lettuce wraps, skewers and bruschettas. In addition, Wine Down by the River is a top spot for wedding showers, rehearsal dinners, retirement parties and birthday get-togethers.
