Until you can figure out how to get somebody to pay you to do awesome stuff, nothing beats free entertainment. Whether you’re tired of the beach or you’re waiting out another daily summer afternoon storm, Jacksonville, Fla., has plenty of options for free things to do. We scoped out the free scene for you. Here are our favorites:

Cummer Museum on Tuesdays, 4-9p.m.

No self-respecting city can call itself cultured without a decent museum. Jacksonville is lucky enough to have Cummer Museum, which houses some of the finest art in the Southeast, but that also recognizes you shouldn’t always have to donate an arm and a leg to appreciate the arts. The museum offers free admission every Tuesday between 4 and 9 p.m. You can thank Florida Blue, a health insurance company, for covering the ticket costs.

Music @ Main – Jacksonville Public Library

You know how you keep telling yourself that you need to take advantage of all the free stuff the library has to offer? Here’s the perfect chance to start. Music @ Main has been one of the Jackson Public Library‘s most popular community events since 2006. It’s not uncommon for performances to be standing room only. Check their site for schedules.

Anheuser-Busch Tour

If we have to tell you why a free tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Jacksonville is cool, then this probably isn’t for you anyway. While there is a guided tour, the complimentary brewery tour lets visitors walk through the hoppy, sudsy wonderland to learn the seven steps of the brewing process. The brewery is just a short drive from the beaches and far from boring. Plus, free beer at the end of the tour for those 21 and over!

Sally Corporation Factory Tour

Give your inner geek (or your youngsters) a treat by peeking behind the curtain at this world-class robot and “dark ride” maker. Sally Corporation builds things you would see at amusement parks around the world. On the tour, you’ll see where and how the magic happens.

Jacksonville Farmers Market

Florida’s oldest farmers market, the Jacksonville Farmer’s Market, is many things to many people. For kids, it’s a chance to see and smell things new things. For grownups, it’s a place to pick up some of the best farm-to-table produce in the area. For everyone, it’s downright delicious. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s great place to people watch and learn about local farmers.

And a summer bonus for families: Apple Camp for Kids

Looking for a way to encourage your kids in a technological direction? The world’s finest maker of must-have tech goodies holds youth camps during the summer. You can visit Apple’s Youth Program site for more information. Sign up with your email on their website, and you’ll be notified when registration in the Jacksonville area opens.
