Local Hospital Cares for the Whole Community

By on
From car seat safety to Alzheimer’s support, the Northeast Georgia Medical Center & Health System is committed to improving the health of the Gainesville community and the surrounding region at every stage of life. In fact, NGMC serves almost 700,000 people in 13 counties across northeast Georgia. As proof of their dedication to total well-being, the not-for-profit hospital returns all revenue above operating expenses back to the community through new programs and services. These include a bariatric weight loss center, a cancer center, cardiac services, hospice, physical rehabilitation and women’s and children’s services, among others. Supporting people through life’s many ups and downs is just as important as providing medical care at NGMC. The hospital sponsors such programs as the grief and bereavement support group, Emotions Anonymous, diabetes support group, H.O.P.E. (Helping Other Parents Endure), newborn parenting class, car seat safety, Alcoholics Anonymous, Alzheimer’s family support group, weight loss groups and Safe Kids, a global organization with an active Gainesville chapter that focuses on preventing childhood injury. With all of these programs, it makes sense that the medical center is growing at a rapid rate. The main hospital campus is on Spring Street, and the Lanier Park Campus is on White Sulphur Road. There is a new North Patient Tower, a new Women & Children’s Pavilion, and plans are in the works to build a new South Hall Campus. There are also two long-term care centers and Laurelwood, a mental health and substance abuse treatment center. One of the most respected programs of the medical center is the Ronnie Green Heart Center, which was rated No. 1 in Georgia for cardiac services. Using the most advanced technology and the most highly trained cardiac specialists, the heart center is known for performing state-of-the-art open-heart procedures. The center, named for a Gainesville man who dearly loved his hometown, is the manifestation of his dream – and the hospital’s philosophy – of giving back to the community.
