Little people are patients, too.

Fortunately, children throughout Greater Philadelphia now have access to the most advanced outpatient pediatric medical facility in the world, the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care located on the main campus of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The new 700,000-square-foot building features 12 floors of integrated clinical-care facilities, as well as patient, family and visitor amenities.

“This facility, both technologically sophisticated and family-friendly, will revolutionize care for children,” says Dr. Steven M. Altschuler, CEO.

The center was made possible through a landmark $50 million gift from the Buerger family, the largest charitable donation in the history of CHOP. Founded in 1855 as the nation’s first pediatric hospital, CHOP receives the highest amount of funding by the National Institutes of Health among all U.S. children’s hospitals for its pediatric research program.

The 500-plus-bed hospital at CHOP’s main campus is also home to world-renowned cancer, cardiac and fetal surgery programs. In the past decade, the hospital has expanded its CHOP Care Network, extending its medical expertise to 50 satellite locations across the region, including a new office in Plainsboro near Princeton.

In 2014, another satellite office will open in King of Prussia. U.S. News & World Report named CHOP to the top spot on its 2013-14 Honor Roll of the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals, also ranking it in the top four for all pediatric specialties. Perhaps the best evidence of its standing among those to whom it matters most, however, is being named #1 Pediatric Hospital in the U.S. by Parents magazine.
