Iowa City offers both public and private school that provide an environment where young minds can learn and grow.

Public Schools

Iowa City Community School District is the fifth largest district in the state and has the state's best high school. With more than 12,000 students enrolled, the city’s public schools include students from neighboring communities of North Liberty, Hills and Coralville.

The district includes 18 elementary schools and three junior high schools, as well as preschool and daycare.

Iowa City has two high schools and one alternative school for grades 7-12. The city’s West High School was named Best School in Iowa by Newsweek, and it is also in the top 500 schools in the nation thanks to its graduation rate, standardized test scores and college matriculation rate.

Private Schools

Iowa City has plenty of private schools, too. It is home to Regina Catholic Education Center, a private Catholic institution, Willowind School, a private K-8 school, and Preucil School of Music, a school that specializes in the Suzuki instruction method.
