West Des Moines, IA: Public and Private Schools Overview
West Des Moines' two public school districts and several private schools educate students in K-12th grades.
West Des Moines Community Schools
The West Des Moines Community School District serves students in the western portion of Polk County – West Des Moines and Clive, parts of Urbandale and Windsor Heights, and nearby rural areas, with 14 different schools.
The district's one high school has a music program that is nationally recognized. The Valley High School Music Department was honored with the first GRAMMY® Signature School award.
Waukee Community School District
Waukee is the fastest-growing school district in the state, and it serves students from Clive, Urbandale, Waukee and West Des Moines, as well as having open enrollment to students from other communities outside the district boundaries. The district currently has 10 school buildings, providing room for the increasing number of students.
There are four private schools in West Des Moines, three of which are affiliated with the Catholic church. Sacred Heart School and St. Francis of Assisi School take students from kindergarten until eighth grade, and Dowling Catholic High School goes from 9-12 grades.
Iowa Christian Academy is a nondenominational Christian school that focuses on developing leaders committed to Christianity.
