onsemi technology is everywhere. It’s in sensors and power supplies in our vehicles, consumer electronics in our homes and lighting systems in our offices. Nampa is home to an onsemi Intelligent Sensing manufacturing facility, where 200 employees are creating meaningful change, with both local and global impact.

“onsemi is an $8 billion per year global semiconductor company, so we have the scale and resources to tackle big challenges,” says Mitchell Mooney, Nampa General Manager. “Our employees in Nampa are innovating to create intelligent sensing technologies that solve the most challenging customer problems. But they are also very grounded in the local community. Our team thrives on this special combination of big company impact and local company feel.”

The onsemi Nampa facility is responsible for several critical steps in producing advanced image sensors. Namely, onsemi delivers semiconductor wafers to the Nampa facility to add specialized layers: the color filter array (CFA) and the microlens.

The CFA layer filters light so the sensor can measure colors – without it, images would be black and white. The microlens sits on top of the CFA, focuses the light and determines how much gets captured for the final image. If the microlens isn’t precisely focused down to the pixel, image sensing won’t show true colors.

All these materials go through careful engineering and extensive testing for accuracy, safety and endurance before shipping out of Nampa. Teams at onsemi in Nampa ensure that sensors on your car’s windshield or on a building’s outdoor security system, for example, will perform well over the lifetime of the device.

“It is extremely exciting to work with a highly innovative organization to drive disruptive technologies that empower a strong sustainable ecosystem,” says Loriston Ford, Director of Color Filter / Microlens Technology.

“onsemi is committed to creating meaningful change by supporting the community programs and initiatives that our employees care about most.”

While onsemi is a large corporation, the company is sincere in its mission to positively impact peoples’ lives, the planet and our communities. In Nampa, over the last two years, local onsemi teams have raised approximately $10,000 through a charity golf tournament benefitting Camp Rainbow Gold, a nonprofit serving children in Idaho who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families. onsemi Nampa also sponsors holiday “giving tree” donations to children and families in need through the Salvation Army and partners with the Idaho Foodbank to participate in their Empty Bowls charity event.

“onsemi is committed to creating meaningful change by supporting the community programs and initiatives that our employees care about most,” says Mandi Mariani, Human Resources Business Partner. “We’ve been honored to partner with some wonderful nonprofit organizations, support our local employees in personally fulfilling ways and show Nampa how much we care.”
