Residents of Pocatello have access to quality health care through Portneuf Medical Center. Its beautiful facility and staff welcome patients and provide a wide range of services, including cancer treatments, emergency services, family medicine, surgery, heart and vascular care, and internal medicine.
One of Portneuf Medical Center's goals is to ensure that patients receive cutting-edge care. Toward that goal, PMC developed its Heart Hospital, which is one of just a handful of hospitals in the country with a hybrid operating room, a cross between a traditional operating room and a cardiac catheterization lab.
The hospital uses robotic surgery methods and has a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center, with the latest in CT scanning technology. PMC also uses sophisticated technology to extend its reach to rural and other underserved areas.
A hospital is more than its facilities and equipment, however. PMC's professional health-care providers are dedicated to patient satisfaction. Dan Ordyna, Portneuf Medical Center’s CEO says that even with a beautiful state-of-the-art hospital with the latest equipment and technology, it is the people who make PMC a world-class facility.
“We have the most educated, highly trained, and compassionate physicians and staff imaginable,” Ordyna says. “They are what make Portneuf Medical Center something to be proud of. They are why we are nationally ranked and locally recognized.”
Indeed, several organizations have recognized the medical center with awards for its services, staff and quality of care. The Joint Commission has awarded PMC its Gold Seal of Approval, and in June 2014, the medical center received the Center of Excellence Award from Healogics for its Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, which honors outstanding patient outcomes for 24 consecutive months.
PMC also participates as an Award Partner in the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses. As part of the program, the medical center honors one of its nurses with this special honor quarterly.
