When it comes to high-quality health services, the eight-county Southern Idaho region is well stocked. Among numerous options spanning routine wellness to acute emergencies are four medical centers that boast cream-of-the-crop caregivers and leading-edge medical technology.

St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center

St. Luke’s Health System has served Southern Idaho and parts of northern Nevada since 1918, including its St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls. The 700,000-square-foot hospital is regarded as one of the most advanced in the western U.S., complete with 224 beds, private rooms, a large emergency department, women’s and children’s center, and inpatient rehabilitation center.

Other features include efficiently designed nursing areas, earth-tone colors and a sizable cardiac-catheterization (heart) lab. A medical plaza with 20 specialties is connected to the hospital, as is the expanded St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute clinic. A soon-to-be-completed outpatient surgery center is situated next to the hospital’s main building.

In nearby Jerome, the health system has opened the 25-bed St. Luke’s Jerome Medical Center to provide emergency medical services, family medicine, OB/GYN, geriatric care, disease prevention and wellness. Also on staff are breastfeeding consultants, diabetes-education specialists and home oxygen services.

Cassia Regional Medical Center

In Burley, the 25-bed Cassia Regional Medical Center, opened in 1960, today is operated by Intermountain Healthcare. In spring 2014, Cassia completed a $3.5 million upgrade and expansion of its emergency and imaging departments. The medical center’s services include 24-hour emergency room, critical care, family practice, obstetrics, orthopedics, surgery, rehabilitation and a sleep lab.

Minidoka Memorial Hospital

Located in Rupert, MMH finished a $6.5 million renovation in July 2013. Services offered at the hospital and nursing home include surgery, obstetrics, inpatient and outpatient treatment, long-term care, home health, ambulance and occupational health. In spring 2014, Minidoka Memorial Hospital installed one of the most advanced CT machines available for a small hospital. The facility has 50 beds and employs more than 200 people, including 51 physicians, making it an important employer in Minidoka County.

North Canyon Medical Center

North Canyon Medical Center has been making a difference in Gooding since the multimillion-dollar facility opened on time and under budget in 2010. It has private rooms, an all-digital health records system integrated with affiliated doctors’ offices, a large emergency room with two trauma bays and six exam rooms, a wound center, 16-slice CT scanner, 4-D ultrasound, digital mammography and surgical imaging, and more. North Canyon was also built for expansion at every level, so it can grow with the community, and a 33,000-square-foot, $10 million medical plaza is currently under construction. The plaza connects to the west side of the existing facility, and will include physician offices; physical, occupational and speech therapy services; a wound center; an MRI machine; and space to accommodate visiting specialists.

Life Flight at Burley Municipal Airport

In 2015, Life Flight Network opened a 24/7 base at Burley Municipal Airport. The emergency helicopter base directly serves Cassia Regional Medical Center and Minidoka Memorial Hospital, the closest facilities to the base, while also serving surrounding communities, including Twin Falls, Gooding, Jerome, American Falls and Malad. Local health professionals say the Mini-Cassia area needed a medical helicopter service in order to more quickly transport patients in critical condition to the appropriate hospitals.
