Farm Fresh
Organized by Sustainable Glasgow, the Bounty of the Barrens Farmers Market thrives with more than 30 regional-only based vendors selling local meats, cheeses, dairy, eggs, honey, fruits, vegetables and nuts, plus artisan crafts. You’ll also find the Green Market Co-op, which sources from some of the same vendors selling at the farmers market, among others, and provides a wonderful local source of fresh food, including bulk food items, eco-conscious cleaning products and cookbooks. Held at Glasgow Square, the market is open Saturday mornings spring through fall. In winter, the market meets at the UK Extension office, once monthly on the second Saturday November to April. Button says with the help of the Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development, they hope to take the next steps to finding a permanent year-round home.
Squeal for Micqueal’s
The former Micqueal’s Bistro has rebranded as Plaza Café with a new, more diverse menu of country-style classics, plus live music and karaoke. The new CO Larry Ennis says the updates, including a new kids’ menu, have truly pleased customers, and original owner Michael Matthews is still on board.
BBQ Lovers Dream
The fastest growing food phenomenon might be Dewayne Poynter’s Rib Lickers Smoke Shack. Poynter studied under barbecue legend Mike Mills and started out cooking in a tent and mobile kitchen at events – from there, he graduated to a shack behind a shopping center, and now he’s considering expanding his year-old brick and mortar a second time. Great ribs, fantastic brisket and spectacular live music make it a destination.

Also on the list is the reopened Ole French Restaurant, a local favorite and terrific source for your event planning needs as well. If your tastes run to good Mexican, Garcia’s Grill gets consistent high marks from the dining public – including raves about the outstanding guacamole.
